Hourly projects on ToptalExpert combine agreed rates, tracked work, and a weekly review cycle. The platform is designed to give clients visibility into work while making sure freelancers are paid for approved time.

How hourly rates are agreed

  1. Clients set an expected hourly rate when creating a project.
  2. Freelancers can submit their own proposed rate for the work.
  3. The final hourly rate is confirmed during the interview and offer stage.

How time is tracked

  1. Freelancers log hours through the integrated time tracker.
  2. Clients can review project activity through the dashboard and project reports.
  3. Manual time can be enabled or disabled per contract depending on how strictly you want time to be recorded.

How the weekly payment cycle works

  1. Tracked hours are submitted on the platform’s weekly cycle for client review.
  2. Clients have a review window to approve or dispute hours before funds are released.
  3. Approved payments are then processed to the freelancer on the following payout schedule.
Payment protection

The help center describes an escrow-style hold period for hourly payments so both sides have time to review the recorded work.

Enterprise billing

If your organization has more complex billing needs, enterprise-specific billing preferences can be configured around your contracts.
